Sprint In Talks To Take Over T-Mobile (S)

TMobile MyTouch Commercial

Sprint had talks with Deutsche Telekom, of which T-Mobile is a wholly-owned subsidiary, about buying the company, Bloomberg reports.

The deal would include stock as consideration and would end up with Deutsche Telekom a large, maybe 50% shareholder in Sprint. We're not sure how the combined networks would work out, since T-Mobile is based on GSM and Sprint is based on CDMA.

Deutsche Telekom is also looking at a deal with Clearwire, which is majority owned by Sprint.

T-Mobile and Sprint are both foundering, partly because they don't have the iPhone and partly because they're much smaller than Verizon and AT&T, so they're looking at everything for options.
