Google Chrome Is Growing Faster Than Any Other Browser (GOOG)

Whether you're a fan or not, Google's work ethic is undeniable. Google+ cleared 20 million members last week, and ZDnet just released this chart showing that Chrome is a force to be reckoned with.

6% more people are using it now than they were last year. Safari is the only other major web browser to see some growth, while Opera, Firefox, and Internet Explorer are seeing some chunks of their user bases swallowed up.

Safari now accounts for 7.48% of all web traffic, largely in part due to iOS. Chrome is at 13.11%, Firefox is at 21.7%, and Explorer is at 53.7%, just over half.

Chrome Hits 20% Share As IE Continues Slide

jbrodkin writes "Google Chrome's rise in popularity has been remarkably fast and it's just hit a new milestone: more than 20% of all browser usage, according to StatCounter. Chrome rose from only 2.8% in June 2009 to 20.7% worldwide in June 2011, while Microsoft's Internet Explorer fell from 59% to 44% in the same time frame. Firefox dropped only slightly in the past two years, from 30% to 28%. While other browser trackers show Chrome with a lower percentage, there's a reason: StatCounter tracks total surfing, not the number of users. It's the Web's power users who are pushing Chrome to new heights."

Here's An Awesome Chrome Extension For Google Music Beta Users (GOOG)

google music beta extension

If you use Google Chrome and Google Music Beta, the "Better Music Beta" browser extension is a must-have.

The extension will also make listening to music on Chromebooks, which don't have a real music app, a whole lot easier.

The "Better Music Beta" extension adds a button to your extensions bar that, when clicked, pops up a convenient tool for playing, pausing, and skipping back and forth between songs.

Google is starting to send out Google Music Beta invites a bit more generously these day (even if they've completely halted Google+ invites) so if you haven't tried yet, now's a great time to request an invite.

Also, the extension adds Gmail-like desktop notifications for when new songs come on. If you're a Last.fm user, the extension supports scrobbling your tracks.

Grab the Better Music Beta extension here for free.

Chrome Hits 20% Marketshare (Report) (GOOG, MSFT)

rocket launch

Google Chrome now has 20% marketshare in browsers, according to online analytics firm StatCounter, TheNextWeb reports.

This is pretty staggering. Just two years ago, Chrome was at 2.8%.

The gains came at the expense of both Firefox and Internet Explorer, which is now dipping below 50% marketshare.

This shows a few things:

  • Google's got some great engineers. (We already knew that, but worth repeating);

  • The browser market is actually an opportunity. People think of the browser as boring, utility software, but if tens of millions of people are willing to switch browsers, it means there's room for a newcomer. And there's opportunity for change and evolution. This is why RockMelt, a startup founded by a bunch of former Netscape rockstars, recently raised $30 million
