It Took Six Weeks For The PlayBook To Sync With Mac (RIMM)

Blackberry playbook

RIM has finally updated its BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac, enabling PlayBook owners to sync photos, video, and other files.

We were extremely frustrated that there was no way to do this on the Mac when we first reviewed the PlayBook. If you wanted to get any media on or off the device you had to e-mail it to yourself.

Still, the Desktop Manager update isn't perfect. You can't back up or restore your device like you can with other tablets. Perhaps that will come in the next version.

You can download Desktop Manager here.

How To Sync Microsoft Office To Google Docs (GOOG, MSFT)

Google Cloud Sync With Google Docs

One thing we love about mobile office apps like Quickoffice is the ability to sync your documents online using services like Google Docs or Dropbox.

Now that feature has come to the most popular office suite in the world, Microsoft Office.

Starting today, anyone with a Google account can download a free plugin called Cloud Connect for Office that will let you sync your Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files between your desktop and Google Docs.

The plugin is only available for Windows users. Download it here.

After installing, you'll see a new Google toolbar in your Office applications where you can log in and sync to your Google Docs account.

Microsoft App Makes It Easy To Sync A Windows Phone With A Mac (MSFT)

Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac

If you're an iPhone owner, it's a snap to sync your phone to your Mac through iTunes.

Just plug it in and all your contacts, music, and calendar events are automatically updated.

But if you have any other smartphone, it's not so easy.

Microsoft has bridged the gap between its Windows Phone 7 devices and Mac with a new app available in the Mac App Store.

The app lets you sync photos, music, and movies from iTunes and iPhoto with your Windows Phone or Zune player. There's even a capacity bar at the bottom that looks a lot like the one you see in iTunes when syncing your iPhone.

The only thing it's missing is iCal and Mail support. Microsoft probably wants you to stick with Outlook for that. But it's still pretty significant that they recognize so many people use iTunes to manage music.

You can download the Windows Phone 7 Connector app for free in the Mac App Store.

doubleTwist AirSync for Android Let You Sync ‘Music, Photos and Videos Over WiFi

DoubleTwist has been labeled 'iTunes for Android' for some time but the app's new AirSync feature gives it a leg up on the competition. It has upped the ante by offering comprehensive media syncing over Wi-Fi connections via its new app called "AirSync", which eliminates the need for cables.

Now Android Has Wireless Music Sync, So When Will Apple Follow? (GOOG, AAPL)

android music droid

AOL has released the final version of Winamp for Android phones, and one of the most interesting new features is the ability to sync your PC's music library with your phone using your home Wi-Fi network--no cables required.

Great feature. But it's not the "First Wireless Sync on Market that Links Desktop Library with Mobile Device" as the press release claims. Microsoft's Zune family of MP3 players has been able to do this since 2008, and Windows Phone 7 launched with the same feature earlier this month.

Credit to Winamp for staying ahead of Apple, though. Early this decade, the Winamp PC client was the preferred digital media player for music enthusiasts, but the rise of the iPod and iTunes supplanted it. With this Android release, WinAmp gives Android phones a great feature that the iPhone and iPod Touch still lack.

Apple could easily ignore this feature when only the Zune had it--the Zune was hobbled by a weak launch, and never made a dent in the iPod's market share. But Android shipments are clobbering the iPhone, particularly in the U.S. So maybe this will finally spur Apple to action.

More details on Winamp for Android and the accompanying WinAmp 5.6 client, including download links for both, are available on the Winamp blog.
