Meet The Soon-To-Be Groupon Billionaires

andrew mason

Groupon filed for a $750 million IPO today.

The S1 filing assumes that there will be about 296 million shares floated as of June 11, but doesn't reveal how Groupon expects those shares to be priced -- those details will be worked out closer to the IPO date.

But the company was reportedly looking for a valuation of $25 billion back in March.

So assuming this is still true, here are the big winners from the IPO.

Accel Partners: $1.4 billion.

Accel put $30 million into the company back in December 2009 and owns 5.6% of the common shares. Partner Kevin Efrusy (pictured here) sits on Groupon's board.

Former president Robert Solomon: $1.7 billion

He just left the president job in March, and has 6.8% of the company's common shares. He's on the right in this picture, next to CEO Andrew Mason.

Cofounder Brad Keywell: $1.7 billion.

His 6.9% stake is actually owned by an entity called Rugger Ventures, which is owned by his wife and children. He also owns some extra-voting Class B shares.

Meet Facebook's (Soon-To-Be) Billionaires

Dustin Moskovitz

DST, Goldman Sachs, and Goldman Sachs clients are in the process of buying $2 billion worth of Facebook stock at a $50 billion valuation. That's up more than double from the last time we did a story like this – only in May.

The $50 billion valuation means lots of Facebook employees, ex-employees, investors and other stakeholders are, on paper, wealthy enough that their children and their children's children will never have to work.

And when Facebook inevitibly IPOs (perhaps at the SEC's behest) sometime in 2011 or 2012, that paper wealth is going turn into spendable cash.

Hello, yachts and huge houses!

But who at Facebook owns how much stock?

See The Other Startups Founded By Groupon's Soon-To-Be Billionaires

Echo

If reports are to be believed, Google is about to buy Groupon for $6 billion.

When that happens, Chicago-based angel investors Brad Keywell and Eric Lefkofsky will clear close to $3 billion between them.

(Lefkofksky owns about 30% of the company. Keywell, 10%.)

For their next trick, the pair have formed a new angel-investing firm called Lightbank.

With Lightbank, Keywell and Lefkofsky are betting millions of dollars on a series of startups in Chicago, the midwestern home of successful startups FeedBurner, Groupon, Threadless and 37Signals.

Eric tells us Chicago is part of a larger story about a "migration" of Internet startups "away from the Valley."

"When we built our first shopping cart in 1999, it took 4 developers. Today my 11 year old son can download an open source shopping cart in 10 minutes. Because the reliance on technology has gone down, the other attributes of business become more important: hard work, sales. Those attributes tend to be population specific. Chicago, New York – These places wil have a great run. This is their moment in the sun"

Eric and his partner Brad have already invested in 8 companies and plan to invest in several more.

"They are studs," says New York angel investor Chris Dixon.
