CONFIRMED: Google Is An Investor In Zynga (GOOG)

larry page king crown royal

Zynga's amended IPO filing confirms that Google is among its investors.

There had been reports last year that Google had stealthily invested in Zynga. Zynga's first IPO filing didn't mention that. But its amended filing does, as AllThingsD's Tricia Duryee notes.

It's nice to have the confirmation, but it's even more salient today for two reasons:

  • Of course, Google+. Google+ is Google's impressive attempt at a Facebook-killer. We know games will be coming to Google+ at some point. Google+'s traction plus Google's investment would seem to make it a no-brainer that Zynga would build games on Google's platform. But we've learned that Facebook can decide what games Zynga can or can't publish on other social platforms. How will that work?

CONFIRMED: Turntable.fm Has Raised $7.5 Million Round At $37.5 Million Valuation

We read earlier today that group music/DJ site Turntable.fm was raising a multi-million-dollar round.

After speaking with sources involved in the financing, we can confirm that term sheets were indeed signed yesterday (the deal is so fresh the money has yet to hit Turntable.fm's bank account).

    Turntable.fm raised $7.5 million at a $37.5 million valuation.

All of the initial investors are in on the round, plus one additional investor. They're  excited by Turntable.fm's rapid growth and potential.

First Round Capital principal and Turntable.fm investor Charlie O'Donnell recently tweeted, "If Turntable.fm asked me to pay a subscription to take it mobile... I'd do it in a heartbeat."

The startup has been the talk of New York City since it launched two months ago from the ashes of failed company, StickyBits. We wrote about it last month as one of the hot 25 NYC startups you needed to watch.

Now the music startup has 300,000+ users who include prominent venture capitalists like Bijan Sabet and Fred Wilson, as well as DJ Sir Mix-A-Lot of "Baby Got Back" infamy.

Confirmed: Amazon Spends $545 Million On Diapers.com Parent Quidsi

Amazon.com has just announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire Quidsi, which operates ecommerce sites Diapers.com, Soap.com and BeautyBar.com. The acquisition news first broke over the weekend by Fortune's Dan Primack, who pegged the purchase price at $540 million. Primack wasn't that far off - Amazon says it will acquire all of the outstanding shares of Quidsi for approximately $500 million in cash. The ecommerce juggernaut will also assume approximately $45 million in debt and similar obligations, bringing the total purchase price to $545 million.
