Kleiner Perkins Already Selling Its Twitter Stock

Twitter COO Dick Costolo

Kleiner Perkins is already selling some of the stock it bought in Twitter just last December, Henry Blodget reports.

We heard from a source that Kleiner has already unloaded some of its stock on private markets, quickly making a profit as Twitter's valuation has skyrocketed. Kleiner partner John Doerr has not responded to emails for comment, and we have not confirmed the the stock sales.

Kleiner invested at a valuation of $3.7 billion, and a recent Sharespost auction valued Twitter at $7.8 billion.

Kleiner's decision to sell stock on private markets so quickly after investing raises a host of questions about Kleiner's role at Twitter and the lack of regulation in secondary private markets, which we investigate further in the post below.

Kleiner Perkins Buys $38 Million, 0.07% Stake In Facebook

john doerr tbi

Storied Silicon Valley VC firm Kleiner Perkins is about to buy .0007% of Facebook for $38 million, the WSJ reports.

The valuation is $52 billion.

If Facebook IPOs at a whopping $200 billion – big if – that'll be a 4X return. Not that great.

But let's be serious: KP is buying more than Facebook stock here.

It's buying a less embarrassing answer to pesky questions from limited partners who keep hearing about this Jesse Eisenberg/Mark Zuckerberg guy and Goldman Sach's huge investment.

Kleiner Perkins Set To Invest In Twitter At $4 Billion Valuation

john doerr tbi

Twitter is close to closing on a new round of funding from Kleiner Perkins at a valuation approaching $4 billion, TechCrunch's Michael Arrington reports.

Kleiner Perkins has apparently all but won the bidding war for Twitter, which has seen interest from DST and Andreessen-Horowitz, as well as from potential acquirers Google and Facebook.

TechCrunch reports that the deal is not done, but that it is far enough along that it would be "legally difficult" for Twitter to pass on Kleiner.
