AOL LAYOFFS: Coming Soon, If Not Today (AOL)

The layoffs we've been expecting since AOL announced restructuring costs following its $315 million Huffington Post acquisition could come as soon as today, Kara Swisher reports.

The Times Of India speculates that AOL's office there will be the hardest hit.

Right now, AOL has people in India put together many of its articles and slideshows. Those are tasks people over there expect new AOL media boss Arianna Huffington will assign to her own people. (Interns?)

In an uncomfortable twist, today's layoffs (if they are today) will be quickly followed by toasts of champagne and lots of Greek cookies, as AOL celebrates the FTC's approval acquisition of the HuffPo buy.

In a filing with the SEC following  the $315 million acquisition, AOL announced that it expects "restructuring charges" due to "cost overlap" to total $20 million in 2011.

We think that means this layoff won't be a big one.

When AOL cut ~1,400 people in early 2010, the restructuring charge was $150 million.
