HTC Wants To Work Out A Deal With Apple Over Their Patent Fight (AAPL)

HTC's CFO tells Bloomberg he wants "sit down" and figure out a deal with Apple over their patent disputes.

Apple recently won a ruling from the ITC court that said HTC was violating two of Apple's patents. However, prior to that the ITC said Apple was violating two patents from S3 Graphics, a company that HTC later acquired.

Patent fights are widespread in the mobile market right now with Android and Android phone makers getting hit the worst.

HTC already pays Microsoft a reported $5 per Android handset. Would it have to pay that much to Apple, too?

Comment on Blackberry teams up with HTC Sense creator by Om Malik

I think the key for RIM would be to improve the Blackberry OS experience on the touch devices. We have to remember that Blackberry is primarily a keyboard device and touch is not an natural interface for the platform. I am actually pretty excited to see how this shakes out and what emerges from the collaboration.

HTC Facebook Phones May Be Announced Tomorrow

Pocketnow has published what it calls press shots of two upcoming Facebook phones from HTC.

Both phones feature a small Facebook button below the screen, which would presumably launch a mobile version of the Facebook Web site or a dedicated Facebook app. The PocketNow screenshot also shows a modified version of the HTC Sense UI in which Facebook updates can be delivered directly to the clock app.

Previous reports suggest that the phones will run a modified version of Android and will have minimal local storage. Instead, all photos can be automatically uploaded to Facebook as they're taken -- a feature very similar to the social-sharing features found on Microsoft's ill-fated Kin phones.

The HTC wouldn't be the first Facebook phone -- that honor goes to INQ, which introduced their phone with Facebook functionality a few days ago. Facebook may also be working on its own phone running a specialized version of Android.

Android This Week: Sprint Does Droid; NOOKColor; HTC

Many companies are riding the wave of Android's popularity; Sprint as much as any. The company's popular Android smartphones have netted it a record number of subscribers. Barnes & Noble is riding the wave too, as its new NOOKColor is essentially an Android tablet.
