CHART OF THE DAY: Android Users Are Bigger Data Hogs Than Anyone (AAPL, GOOG, T, VZ)

Remember when people would talk about AT&T's network being crushed by iPhone users and all the data those users needed for websites and apps? And people would say that's why AT&T's network was so weak?

Well, we never heard those complaints about Verizon when it got a bunch of Android users. And it turns out Android users are bigger data hogs than anyone else, including iPhone users, according to Nielsen.

Google, Microsoft, eBay, Yahoo And Facebook Trash AT&T-Mobile; Deal (GOOG, MSFT, EBAY, YHOO, T)

Cockfight

With the fate of the $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile by AT&T in Washington's hands, all the big tech players are moving their pawns. And now the Computer & Communications Industry Association, a trade group that includes Google, Microsoft, eBay, Yahoo and Facebook, has come out against the deal.

The argument is what's to be expected: this merger will be bad for competition, and therefore bad for innovation and consumers. Regardless of the merits, what's going on here is that the companies in the "application layer" of the web don't want the companies who own the pipes, whether they're mobile or internet, to gain too much power.

Verizon: No, We're Not Going To Buy Sprint (VZ, S, T)

verizon ceo Ivan Seidenberg

Verizon Wireless CEO Daniel Mead says Verizon isn't going to buy Sprint, despite speculation to the contrary after AT&T announced it will acquire T-Mobile for $39 billion.

"We don't need them," he said. Sorry bankers!

He said Verizon Wireless's goal is to be the most profitable operator, not the biggest, which makes some sense.

He also said (surprise) that Verizon will fight the T-Mobile deal in Washington. So maybe that's the reason why he doesn't want to buy Sprint: he thinks he won't have to.

Another likely reason: Verizon getting the iPhone was a big impetus behind the deal. So maybe he's just looking forward to watching his biggest competitor focus for several years on first getting the deal through antitrust for a year and then integrating the two companes, instead of focusing on the business.
