Twitter Fires Product Team

jack dorsey

Four key product managers at Twitter are getting the ax, TechCrunch's MG Siegler reports. They are Kevin Cheng, Josh Elman, Anamitra Banerji and Jean-Paul Cozzatti.

This sounds like a pretty big shake-up, and it probably is, and it's also completely normal. Jack Dorsey just returned to Twitter as the company's executive chairman and product visionary. Those people are part of the Ev Williams/Jason Goldman team.

Whenever a new leader steps in an organization, they usually replace the previous person's lieutenants with their own. It's not an ego thing: it's just that everyone is more comfortable working with a certain type of person, and so when you step in to run an organization, that's the people you want around you. And Dorsey is a visionary and very demanding product leader, often compared to Steve Jobs. When Steve Jobs returned to Apple people were terrified to get in an elevator with him because they feared they wouldn't have a job by the time the doors opened again.

stoolpigeon writes "The department I work in is growing and including new members that live quite far apart. Right now most people are in the same office but new members are in Singapore and South Africa, with more coming from other places. I would be interested in Slashdotters recommendations for software, practices, services and anything else that can help build strong virtual teams."

Comment on Talking Through New Productivity Tools With Your Team by Matt

Another way to do it is set up an initial group for a trial period, maybe of a couple weeks to a month. Then by the time you're ready for a formal change, will already have a people other than yourself to help out everyone else getting started.

TeamCompanion is an Outlook plugin that integrates all your TFS work management in one place. It makes your TFS work item queries, reports, documents, etc show up in the Outlook content bar just like your mail, calendar, tasks, etc. It's VERY well done and very seamless.
