Was the Path launch successful?

In Path (startup): Answer added in topic Mobile Location Applications.

Matt Hendrick, I play to win.

Whether you love Path or hate it, they definitely got the word out. From a public relations perspective, the fact that people are talking about it, critiquing it, and discussing the merits of it in forums like Quora suggests that the "launch" was a success.

I think it's safe to assume that they intentionally released a product with very limited functionality, fully aware that it would draw its share of haters. It's easy to sit back from afar and point out all of the features that are lacking, or how they missed an opportunity to capitalize on a wealth of built-in PR with a killer app and so on, but let's be honest - this isn't their first rodeo, and the eventual success or failure of the venture won't be determined by their first release.

I read an article somewhere that suggested Path might be the most high profile MVP release to date. Whether it is or not, the market feedback they've received in the last 48 hours should go a long way towards making an even better product in the future.
