Comment on What a Cheaper iPhone Would Look Like by Sam

I doubt Apple would drop the gyroscope--it's the motion sensor and thus used heavily in games. They could reduce the number of axis back down to what was in the original iPhone, but I'd guess this would be saving pennies, not dimes. The compass is nice to have but not necessary for basic GPS--on the other hand, removing the compass would impact some saugmented-reality applications and also probably would not save much. Saving on the screen by using old iPhone resolutions would make for a very simple bifurcation--Retina displays for their high model and standard display for the low model. Another way to save on the display would be to use a less expensive LCD technology than IPS.

Comment on iOS 5 Wish List by Sam

Big one for me is the ability to organise the photo library from the phone. Why do I have to sync with a computer to move a photo from the camera roll to its own gallery. They've even got the basis of a UI there with being able to create playlists.

Comment on Gap Promo Shows Location Deals Need Work by Sam

Not sure why I see some silver lining here (and, I pretty much loathe FB)...but, I believe Places/Deals is going to suck up all of the low-end mCoupon business (putting a lot of SMS companies out of business)... First, this was simply too big a promo at launch for either Gap or FB. They should have rolled this out more grassroots. But, even with failure, they are educating the public for the next go-round. People lining up at Gap stores in early November? Never been done before. They'll work out the kinks and awareness will grow (exponentially). Like it or not, the low-hanging fruit of mCouponing just got sucked up by one company. Oh, I know, SMS reaches all phones and Facebook apps are only smartphones...You know what? Retailers don't care about you if you don't have a smartphone.
