Amazon Prime is far worse than what you've written because it teaches you to expect your purchases in 1-2 days for very little. When Amazon doesn't have something, you feel very irritable because it means you're either a) waiting a lot longer than usual or b) end up buying the same item in a store for much more. It's also a logistical marvel that they can ship things to you in one business day for only $4 more. Whoever came up with Amazon Prime is a genius.

What's wrong with general curiosity? Must there always be a motive? I don't own AAPLE stock, but it's always cool to know how many of these "useless devices" as everyone is calling the iPad, is selling...gives me a nice laugh at all the idiot fandroid drones that are out there.

Really need to change that title to "Why Microsoft is wasting $8 billion". Honestly, some times this game of "tech keep away" means that smaller companies end up in the hands of giants which pretty much squander their talent and make the company disappear. I'd really like to see how spending $500 million on Danger turned out for Microsoft. It's MUCH more likely they'd rather kill Skype than to see Google or Facebook get their hands on it, and that's a real shame. Facebook would likely integrate it into their website even more (but I'd really hate that as I hate Facebook now). Google would FINALLY integrate a VoIP solution with Google Voice so telcos can shove it up their collective rear-ends. I'd just like these type of acquisitions to actually benefit the consumers for a change instead of wondering how they'll gracefully degrade services for anything but their own integrated products.

And after you hire those young people, explain to them how you'll work together to help them out of the technical track, where ageism and cost-cutting are going to declare them obsolete by the age of 30. After that many years in software, I still learn a language or two every year, but I've also been around enough not to make the wet-behind-the-ears mistakes that too-commonly doom career-starting startups. Out of maybe sixty good developers I've known who started roughly when I did, all but about five are in completely non-technical jobs now, or are long-term unemployed. Three are senior development managers in large firms, and there's one other guy who learned Chinese and moved to Shanghai ten years ago. Very, very few other crafts, trades or professions kill off their talent as systematically and arbitrarily as development does. Sorry for restating the obvious, but every time I see someone emphasize how "YOUNG people" are somehow intrinsically superior to others, I get angry. It's the most reliable, inexcusable troll bait I've seen in thirty years online.
