Publicly, the company is portraying a very defensive image — one that is very dismissive, as if RIM is profitable and class-leading, and the media is out of line to criticize its business, as are investors. We’ve spoken to multiple ex-RIM executives at length about their experiences with the company over the past few years. Comment on Skype CEO, not investors, made the key cuts by Skype Insider
To those who say that Skype employees should have sought legal advice - a few comments in response
- Skype employees have a stock option agreement and a stock option plan. The stock option plan, in turn, contains a “blink and you missed it” reference to a third document, a Partnership Agreement in the Cayman Islands, the jurisdiction where the stock options are actually held. That means to obtain competent legal advice, a typical employee would need to retain lawyers in both their home state and in the Caymans. Then they would need to retain a lawyer in New York because Skype chose New York state law to apply to many provisions (nb: strangely, Skype has no employees in New York and claims, for regulatory purposes, not to even “do business” there). Q - Do we really expect this kind of massive “lawyering up” from new employees?
- These were not negotiated agreements. Employees were induced to join Skype with promises of stock options, and then, after leaving their other jobs behind, were instructed to sign these convoluted agreements - Take it or leave it.
- It is very revealing that Skype, unlike every other tech company, chose not to furnish its rank and file employees with a “Q&A;” overview or summary of key provisions of its stock option plan. They knew they were engaged in a deception and decided to keep it dark.
- No amount of lawyering should be able to take away the common-sense and "legal" definition of vested. From Black's law dictionary "vested " means "having become a completed, consummated right for present or future enjoyment, not contingent, unconditional, absolute."
- Finally Skype/Silver Lake have not successfully cheated anyone out of their vested options yet. This won't be over for a long time....

The Biggest Announcements Microsoft Made Today About The Future Of Xbox (MSFT)
Microsoft's keynote at E3 today was largely about Kinect, and it's no wonder why.
Microsoft's motion capture controller called Xbox Kinect has propelled Xbox sales ahead of every competitor, and has made the Xbox 360 even more of a family friendly gaming platform.
Among other announcements, Microsoft announced some new features for Xbox 360 including Kinect Star Wars (as close as you can get to swinging a light saber), cloud storage for game saves and profiles, and voice control that pervades the entire Xbox experience.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is the coolest game we've seen in a long time. New York City is under attack. You have to watch this video to believe how intense this game is.
Kinect Fun Labs imports a 3D version of yourself
"Kinect Fun Labs" brings the latest Kinect gadgets and tech to your Xbox Live dashboard.
One cool thing we saw today was a cool feature that lets you scan yourself into the game instead of picking clothes and features for your avatar.
Kinect will recognize your hair, eyes, nose, mouth, and clothing, and put you in the game in 3D.
Voice control will be tied in to the entire Xbox experience
From games to search, voice control will play a big part going forward.
Microsoft demoed searching for movies, games, and tv shows using only your voice.

Steve Jobs Made Fun Of Google Today, But Didn't Attack Facebook (AAPL, GOOG)
Apple CEO Steve Jobs took advantage of his opportunity to whack rival Google today, mocking that the iPad had 65,000 apps available for it, and Google's new Android Honeycomb OS only has about 100.
But Apple did NOT attack its new rival Facebook today by releasing a social networking app, as had been rumored.
Instead, Apple actually announced a tiny partnership with Facebook: It's one of the sites you'll be able to automatically upload video to from the iPad's new iMovie app.

Event Management made easier with Eventzilla
A recent and a more general web surfing activity of mine lead me into encountering a unique, quick & simple, and a very inexpensive online start-up firm named Eventzilla. I say unique, because it is a service that was never before thought of and one which could help event management firms save a lot of time. I say, quick & simple because unlike other online services, this website enables event organizers to take very little lead time and complications in availing event management solutions. I say, very inexpensive because there are very few or no online services existing that cost as reasonable as Eventzilla.
