After nine months of testing in-stream Promoted Tweets on third party client Hootsuite, reports have surfaced today that Twitter's head of monetization Adam Bain has been pushing a new in-timeline Promoted Tweets product during this week's advertiser-heavy Canne Lions awards. To the two of you that this comes to as a shock, one word: Inevitable. Twitter has made no secret of the fact that in-stream Promoted Tweets have been an eventual business model goal since April of 2010, when co-founder Biz Stone outlined a plan to launch them first on search on Twitter.com, later in 3rd party search and eventually in the user timeline.

‘Follow by Email Gadget’ Added to Google Blogging Platform ‘Blogger’

Google Blogger today introduced a "Follow by Email" gadget that provides blog authors a simple way for their readers to subscribe to the latest hot-off-the-press updates, which're delivered directly to the reader's inbox. When new blog content is published, all subscribed readers will receive a daily email notification of the new published posts, which includes a copy of the new content as well as links back to the actual posts.

I agree. Twitter is about getting the best of strangers, accessing ideas and information from people you wouldn't otherwise come into contact with. The social part is the part where anyone can mention you and interact with you - not the following back indiscriminately.

Now Android Has Wireless Music Sync, So When Will Apple Follow? (GOOG, AAPL)

AOL has released the final version of Winamp for Android phones, and one of the most interesting new features is the ability to sync your PC's music library with your phone using your home Wi-Fi network--no cables required.

Great feature. But it's not the "First Wireless Sync on Market that Links Desktop Library with Mobile Device" as the press release claims. Microsoft's Zune family of MP3 players has been able to do this since 2008, and Windows Phone 7 launched with the same feature earlier this month.

Credit to Winamp for staying ahead of Apple, though. Early this decade, the Winamp PC client was the preferred digital media player for music enthusiasts, but the rise of the iPod and iTunes supplanted it. With this Android release, WinAmp gives Android phones a great feature that the iPhone and iPod Touch still lack.

Apple could easily ignore this feature when only the Zune had it--the Zune was hobbled by a weak launch, and never made a dent in the iPod's market share. But Android shipments are clobbering the iPhone, particularly in the U.S. So maybe this will finally spur Apple to action.
