Here's A Leaked Internal Microsoft Video Making Fun Of Gmail For Reading All Your Emails (MSFT, GOOG)

Microsoft made the following video spoofing Google's Gmail for its Microsoft Global Exchange (MGX) event, which is a gather of its salesforce.

ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley got it from an attendee, and while Microsoft hasn't officially commented, it looks real -- it has the "Contoso" brand that Microsoft uses in a lot of its demos. (Microsoft actually owns the copyright so nobody else can use that name.)

This ad isn't airing publicly and is not meant for official distribution -- it's really just to fire up the troops -- but it is a little bit misleading.

The video shows the "Gmail Man" reading through people's letters looking for keywords to serve up ads. This is what the personal version of Gmail does.

However businesses can turn the ads off -- that's one of the things businesses get by paying for Google Apps. So there's really no advantage for Microsoft's Office 365 here.

When you receive a new email in Gmail, the notifier illuminates red and shows you how many unread messages you have. If you click it, you have easy access to the sender and subject. Click an email to go straight to it in Gmail.

Gmail Call Recording Appears To Be Rolling Out Widely

Back in August, Gmail launched what is perhaps my favorite new feature ever: integration with Google Voice, which lets you make and receive calls directly from your computer. Facebook’s Gmail Killer, Project Titan, Is Coming On Monday

Back in February we wrote about Facebook's secret Project Titan — a web-based email client that we hear is unofficially referred to internally as its "Gmail killer". Now we've heard from sources that this is indeed what's coming on Monday during Facebook's special event, alongside personal @facebook.com email addresses for users. This isn't a big surprise — the event invites Facebook sent out hinted strongly that the news would have something to do with its Inbox, sparking plenty of speculation that the event could be related to Titan. Our understanding is that this is more than just a UI refresh for Facebook's existing messaging service with POP access tacked on. Rather, Facebook is building a full-fledged webmail client, and while it may only be in early stages come its launch Monday, there's a huge amount of potential here.
