Apple Just Released A New Version Of iOS That Fixes A Huge Security Hole (AAPL)
Apple just released the next iOS update, version 4.3.4. (It's version 4.2.9 for those of you with Verizon iPhones.)
The update contains a fix for the loophole that leaves iPhones vulnerable to hackers when downloading PDFs.
It's the same vulnerability that the popular tool Jailbreak Me uses to jailbreak iPhones over the web.
If you plan on Jailbreaking using Jailbreak Me, skip this update and only download PDFs from trusted sources. Otherwise, this is an essential update for anyone.
Sync your iDevice with iTunes now to get the update.

With Google's earnings call yesterday, they were proud to share some good news on the mobile front.
There are around 130 million Android devices floating around out there right now and they're seeing 550,000 new activations daily, up from 400,000 in May.
Compare this to Apple iOS activations, which number 325,000 iPhones and iPads a day.
Yes, iOS is still in the lead, but Android is completely poised to catch up if Google can maintain its growth.

Gmail Mobile Web App for iOS Adds “Pull Down to Refresh” Feature
Gmail mobile Web app for iOS borrowed a feature from Tweetie (now the official Twitter client for iPhone and iPad) with which instead of clicking a button to refresh the list of messages, you can now simply pull down the list and wait to see the new messages.

Introducing Native Driver for Android; iPhone (iOS) Version Coming Soon!
NativeDriver is an implementation of the WebDriver API which drives the UI of a native application rather than a web application. Matt DeVore, Google's Engineering Productivity Team announced that the Android version is now available for download.

Adobe Software Updates To Help Devs Build iOS, PlayBook And Android Apps
Adobe is today pushing updates to its application development software product Flash Builder and the open source Flex framework to enable developers to build apps for iPhone, iPad and BlackBerry PlayBook, following support for the Android platform last April.
Developers can now opt to use Adobe's platform to build apps that work across the Web, desktop and a range of tablets smartphones, with the ability to reuse most or all of their existing code and use common logic across all platforms.

I’ve done a lousy job trying to keep up with all the map- and navigation-related stuff coming out for the iOS platform (i.e., iPhone, iPad, iPod touch). There’s just too much out there. (Someone could do a whole blog about it.) But here are a couple of recent items.
GPS Tracklog notes the Bad Elf GPS, which attaches to iOS devices that lack onboard GPS.
(If I recall correctly, the iPad supports GPS via Bluetooth: you can, for example, tether a WiFi-only iPad to an iPhone and use the iPhone’s GPS.)
Meanwhile, The Unofficial Apple Weblog’s Erica Sadun offers reviews of Navigon’s and TomTom’s navigation apps for the iPhone, both of which sound, well, less than perfect. Despite Navigon’s navigation “oddities,” she prefers their app to TomTom’s because of the latter app’s “weak interface.”
