RIM Isn't Making Any Money On The PlayBook (RIMM)
Research in Motion was so confident it would sell millions of PlayBooks this year, it discounted the first 500,000 to wireless carriers.
The idea, according to BGR, is that when carriers saw that RIM was selling them at less than full margin, they would apply further discounts.The first batch would sell out quickly, and carriers would place orders for millions more.
It didn't work out that way. According to the report, the 500,000 PlayBooks that RIM shipped last quarter aren't sold yet, and further orders just aren't coming in yet. Because of the subsidies, RIM hasn't made any money on the PlayBook yet.
Worse, RIM apparently waited until the last minute to tell carriers about the most glaring flaw in the PlayBook -- you can't use it to get email from a BlackBerry-managed email system unless you also have a BlackBerry phone, and connect the PlayBook to the phone wirelessly. Apparently, carriers were expecting the PlayBook to be a giant BlackBerry and were shocked at the omission.

Adobe Software Updates To Help Devs Build iOS, PlayBook And Android Apps
Adobe is today pushing updates to its application development software product Flash Builder and the open source Flex framework to enable developers to build apps for iPhone, iPad and BlackBerry PlayBook, following support for the Android platform last April.
Developers can now opt to use Adobe's platform to build apps that work across the Web, desktop and a range of tablets smartphones, with the ability to reuse most or all of their existing code and use common logic across all platforms.

It Took Six Weeks For The PlayBook To Sync With Mac (RIMM)
RIM has finally updated its BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac, enabling PlayBook owners to sync photos, video, and other files.
We were extremely frustrated that there was no way to do this on the Mac when we first reviewed the PlayBook. If you wanted to get any media on or off the device you had to e-mail it to yourself.
Still, the Desktop Manager update isn't perfect. You can't back up or restore your device like you can with other tablets. Perhaps that will come in the next version.

Sprint Doesn't Think The PlayBook Is Ready To Launch Yet (RIMM, S)
The PlayBook was originally set to launch on Sprint April 18th, but the launch was pushed back to May 8th. Now, there are no signs of a new release date.
This was supposed to be the first launch for a cellular data-equipped PlayBook. The device will run over Sprint's 3G CDMA network.
The "internal documents" Electronista cited were originally posted on BriefMobile, and say that the "new launch date will be communicated as soon as it is available."
There is no official explanation for the delay, but there are no signs Sprint has abandoned the device. They have told retailers to hold onto marketing materials and "PlayBook Electronic Security Pedestals" until the device launches.
When that day will be, we have no idea.
This isn't the first problem with a 3G or 4G PlayBook. A few weeks ago, reports said Verizon was still evaluating the device, with the possibility of choosing not to release it at all.
