Here's Proof That Sony's Android Tablets Will Play PlayStation Games (SNE)

Following the announcement of Sony's two new Honeycomb tablets, the company released this sleek video of the two devices.

The images are just renders, but we do get a hint at what the tablets will be able to do. Sony says the S1 and S2 tablets will interact with all your Sony entertainments systems (Bravia TVs, PS3, etc.) for streaming content and games.

The video shows a shot of the S1 running a video game and what appears to be an online media hub more movies and TV shows.

Check out the video:

AOL Launches Play, An "Instagram For Music," On Android (AOL, GOOG, AAPL)

AOL Play

AOL's mobile efforts so far have been to make mobile apps and websites for its existing properties, like AIM, Mapquest, Engadget, etc.

No longer: The company is launching its first "mobile-first" product today.

It's called Play, and it's an app for listening to music and sharing it with friends.

David Temkin, AOL's VP of Mobile, describes it as a sort-of "Instagram for music." (Instagram is a popular, fun, social photo sharing app on the iPhone.)

Play lets you listen to music from your phone, and also stream song samples from Rdio, using a new API. If you are a paying Rdio subscriber, you can listen to full tracks. And you can share music with your friends using the service, or also via Facebook and Twitter. (A little like Apple's Ping service, but AOL doesn't really want you to think of this and Ping in the same ballpark. We don't blame them.)

Play is launching today exclusively on Google Android phones because of a sponsorship with T-Mobile. Temkin says it will ship for the iPhone within a month, and will include sponsorship and advertising support in the future.

Google Makes Play For Women With Wedding Planning Site (GOOG, AOL)

Google Weddings logo

Google is making a play to get women to spend more time at the site: the company just launched a special site for planning weddings.*

That makes two women's vertical sites in the last three months for the search giant -- a few months ago, Google launched a shopping site for women's fashion, Boutiques.com.

Google still gets a ton of page view, but users tend to spend little time at the site, using it for quick searches and then moving on. People spend far more time at Facebook.

Vertical sites like this are meant to help increase engagement and time spent at the site, and appealing to women seems to be a big focus on the Web lately. AOL chief Tim Armstrong has repeatedly talked about AOL's new 80:80:80 content strategy. The first 80 refers to women, who do 80% of domestic spending. (The other 80s are the 80% of commerce that's done locally and the 80% of purchase decisions driven by "influencers.")

Google for Weddings doesn't contain any dramatically new content, but simply combines wedding-themed Google Sites templates for building an event Web site, special templates for Google Docs -- like a spreadsheet configured as a wedding seating chart -- and links to Picnik and Picasa Web Albums for editing and sharing photos of the day.

*Yes, men get married too. But let's be serious -- is a site about "planning your big day" really geared toward men?

Apple Makes Another Play For The Enterprise: Old Navy Testing iPod-Based Point-Of-Sale System (AAPL, GPS)

Old Navy Apple credit card system

Apple is making a huge play at the enterprise market via iOS: Not just the typical corporate market you think of, like getting big companies to buy Macs instead of Dells, but actually getting companies to use iOS devices as part of their business infrastructure.

The latest example: Old Navy, the clothing retailer, is testing out iPod-based point-of-sale systems in its stores, 9to5Mac reports. These are the same little iPod touch-based credit card swiping systems that you see used in Apple's own retail stores.

Who knows if this will become widespread, but it's a huge potential new market for Apple.

And not just Apple doing it directly, but also via iOS software partners, such as the company we found offering an iPad- and SMS-based table-waiting service at a San Francisco restaurant.

Comment on Google Looks to Play it Safe With Nexus S by Nicholas

That is a Dell Streak. Talk about irony... The reason for a Nexus model is that developers can get a current build on the device. The Streak was stuck at 1.6 when I ditched it not too long ago. Sad.

Lagging in Adoption Gowalla Makes a Play for Revenue (GigaOM)

While rival Foursquare just hit 4 million users last week, Austin-based Gowalla is positioning itself to make more money with a handful of new features including new business listings, City Pages and a Stamp Calendar. It's another sign that location-based companies are trying to move beyond the check-in.
