Google's New Meta-Tags For News Story Authors
EreIamJH writes "Google News is experimenting with meta-tags in an effort to ensure that the correct news source is credit with an article. The original-source meta-tag will identify the newspaper that brakes a story, while syndication-source is for everyone who repeats the story. Both meta-tags can appear multiple times — for instance an article that sources information from other articles would include an original-source tag for each article used in preparing the new article. While the intention is worthy, I look forward to lots of snarky blogger fights as journalists vent their hurt feelings for having been omitted as an original source."

Curious why you don't care for HootDroid? I find HootSuite to be the most versatile, feature-filled Twitter client, more so than Seesmic or TweetDeck. I dare say you may have not discovered all of its features.

Twitter CEO: We Still Don't Know What Twitter Is For
In an interview with The Telegraph newspaper this morning, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo admitted that he's still trying to figure out Twitter's "long-term purpose."
Costolo, who took over for Evan Williams last month, said that he's "currently trying to define" what Twitter is going to become, and noted that users have come up with a lot of past innovations like the hashtag.
Sources say that despite its fast user growth and the introduction of new revenue sources like sponsored tweets and selling access to data, Twitter still isn't booking a lot of revenue. On stage at Web 2.0, Williams didn't offer any revenue numbers for what he called the "promoted suite," saying only that demand was outstripping supply.
But that's a little bit misleading, as the Promoted Products Platform isn't open to general advertisers through a self-service platform (like Google's AdWords, for instance). Instead, Twitter's still selling it only to a select group of test advertisers, and everybody else is supposed to fill out a form for more information. It's easy for demand to outstrip supply when supply is artificially constrained.
Costolo is supposed to help navigate this transition, but it's a hard one: if Twitter sells too many ads, the signal-to-noise ratio will drop and users will abandon the service. He told The Telegraph that he'll have more information to share about Twitter's long-term plans in the "near future."
In addition to defining how Twitter's supposed to make money, Costolo is also dealing with growing pains. He noted that the company now has 325 people and is trying to figure out how to grow without creating crippling bureaucracy, and that it has a "scalability problem" that will soon require more data centers, particularly in Japan.

i would disagree with the statement from metroPCS about what their customers are looking for. i am quite familiar with the retail environment in both metroPCS and cricket retail stores. high end smartphones(usually flashed(converted) from verizon or sprint) are not only in very high demand(far beyond the supply) plus prepaid customers are easily willing to pay in the $400 - $700 range for used phones. that is something very different from the major carriers.
the reality is that metro's leapfroging of 3G means that for now at least customers are unable to use fast data on the phones they can easily obtain(new or used phones flashed from spring or verizon) and are instead limited to either metro's limited 4G selection or using WIFI only for data.

I take the ferry from the center of Amsterdam to Noord, the part of the city on the far end of the IJ where I live, at lot. For cyclists and pedestrians, it is the only way to get from Noord to the city and vice versa. There is a total of five ferry routes, all with different schedules for weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. One of the ferries operates on a round-the-clock schedule, the others cease service around midnight. Too much to remember even for the seasoned ferry traveler.

Apple snuck in a nice bonus in the iOS 4.2 update: now anyone can use the "Find My iPhone" feature without paying for a MobileMe account.
Find My iPhone, allows you to view the location of any iOS device from the iPad, iPod Touch, or iPhone. If you have a MobileMe account, you can also use the web-based locator.
The app lets you send a message to the device, so if anyone finds it, you can tell them how to get in touch with you.
