Enterprise IT sees phones, Facebook and tablets! Oh my!

Enterprise employees have shifted from the gray and controlled world of corporate IT to the colorful Oz of consumer technologies, but according to data from an IDC/Unisys survey IT is in need of some kind of wizard to sort things out. According to dual surveys of 560 IT managers and another interviewing 2,660 employees and executives at large companies, IT underestimates the number of employees using laptops, mobiles and tablets as well as is unable to support those consumer devices.

Amazon Has Plans To Offer Free Streaming Movies On Its Secret Tablets (AMZN)

It has been awhile since we've heard anything about Amazon's impending tablets, so here's some good news.

Barron's reports one of the tablets will have access to a streaming movie service, which will be free for the first batch of tablet owners.

This is another great move by Amazon. Android tablets still don't have access to a robust video library like the iPad does. Right now, the Motorola Xoom is the only tablet that has access to the Android Market's streaming service.

Amazon's Instant Video service already has a selection that rivals Apple's, so it makes sense to add it to its new tablets as well.

Now we know why one of the tablets is codenamed "Hollywood."

Ballmer: Google Has "Taken A Failed Approach So Far" To Tablets (MSFT, GOOG)

Steve Ballmer decided to take a shot at Google's weak Android tablets sales in a talk with Microsoft employees in China.

The Wall Street Journal reports Ballmer told employees, Google "has taken a failed approach so far" with tablets. (He admitted Apple's iPad has been very successful.)

True, Android isn't doing well in tablets right now, but it's just the first inning. It started slowly in phones, too.

At least Google is at bat. Microsoft is still sitting on the bench. (Sorry for the baseball metaphor!)

Ballmer says his company is working a "unique contribution" to the tablet market and will have "more news about that in the not-too-distant future."

We'll be curious to see what it is, and how it differs from Google's approach. Seems like Google's approach to tablets is a lot like Microsoft's approach to PCs.

Ballmer has been promising a Microsoft tablet to compete with Apple and Google since July of last year. (At the time he said, "It has job one urgency around here, nobody's sleeping at this point."

We probably won't see anything from Microsoft on tablets until Windows 8 comes out next year.

We might get a preview of Windows 8 next week.

Here's One Major Advantage Amazon's Tablets Will Have Over The iPad (AMZN)

Last week we learned from BGR that Amazon's upcoming tablets will come in both 7 and 10-inch models.

Now reports are coming out about pricing, and it's a lot better than what Apple has to offer with the iPad.

The 7-inch tablet will cost $349 and the 10-inch tablet will cost $449. Unlike most iPad competitors, it looks like Amazon is looking at a cheaper pricing structure which should help it compete. (Assuming the specs are as good as we hear.)

The pricing rumors come from PC Mag, which has sources close to the issue in Taiwan.

It makes sense. Amazon is known for offering great hardware and software at affordable prices. (Like the $114 ad-supported Kindle and the Amazon Appstore that offers free premium Android apps.)

Even if it means Amazon will lose money by offering the tablets for so cheap, it could give the company a greater chance at gaining a significant marketshare in the long run.

Agree. A man without a tablet is like a fish without a bicycle. But a more appropriate analogy (and a less entertaining one than that of Shock Me) is that a tablet (esp iPad) is a bit like chocolate. You can live without it, but why would you, if you could afford it ?

Here's Proof That Sony's Android Tablets Will Play PlayStation Games (SNE)

Following the announcement of Sony's two new Honeycomb tablets, the company released this sleek video of the two devices.

The images are just renders, but we do get a hint at what the tablets will be able to do. Sony says the S1 and S2 tablets will interact with all your Sony entertainments systems (Bravia TVs, PS3, etc.) for streaming content and games.

The video shows a shot of the S1 running a video game and what appears to be an online media hub more movies and TV shows.
