Nokia Execs Go Missing For Two Months Every Year (NOK, AAPL)

sleepingyahoo.jpg

Every year, Apple starts selling an updateded iPhone in July.

You'd imagine executives at the world's biggest cellphone company, Nokia, would be working their butts off during that month, dealing with an annual seismic shift in their space.

You would imagine incorrectly.

According to Adam Greenfield, a design consultant who spent two years with Nokia, July is the month executives at the company always check out – until September.

“In mid-July, Nokia House is a ghost town,” Greenfield tells Bloomberg BusinessWeek.

“If you need a decision and the key person’s at the summer cottage? Forget it. You’ll resolve that issue in September. It’s something that hampers their agility.”

No kidding. According to the same Bloomberg BusinessWeek article, Apple gets 3X more revenue per employee as Nokia and HTC gets 2X.

Google's New Social Search Is Missing Something Super Huge And Important (GOOG)

larry page

Google just announced a big upgrade to its social search feature.

With Social Search, Google takes a look at your public activity on networks like Flickr, Twitter, even Quora, to deliver relevant results based on what you, or your friends have shared.

Sounds good, but there's one problem -- Google doesn't have data from Facebook, which is the most popular social network in the world, and the place where most people a lot of link and photo sharing.

Asked about Facebook, Google told TechCrunch, "We’re focused on sites where it’s relatively easy to crawl for data." In other words, Facebook won't play nice and let Google use its data.

Makes sense since Facebook and Google are basically enemies at this point, and Facebook is giving that data to friend and partner Microsoft to use in Bing.

In the very long run this could be a problem. If Facebook can provide clear signals to a search engine on what people are looking for, then Bing could have a major leg up.

It's unclear if it will ever really matter though, and Google's engineers tend to dismiss the idea. Google search exec Amit Singhal recently said, "Social is just one signal. It's a tiny signal."

Don't Miss: Suddenly, Bing Has What Google Wants -- Data From 600 Million Facebook

Muhammad Huzaifa, Web designer and Visionary Entrepreneur .

The main key feature missing from these apps are

  1. You only check-in, what happens after check-in?
  2. Foursquare can provide discount/deal/coupon upon check in instead of badges or maybe both
  3. Same apps can be used in SALE AND MARKETING field, there are companies which rely on employees who visit customer at their home or office. A forusquare type app can be used to track those employees and to measure there performance. This type of app can be provided as a SAAS.
