Samsung's Wifi-Only Galaxy Tab Will Be Cheaper Than The iPad
Samsung will start selling a wifi-only version of the seven-inch Galaxy Tab on April 10th, the company announced.
This week Sprint and Verizon started subsidizing the 3G version of the Tab down to $200, but you need to sign up for a two-year contract to get the deal.
Considering that the Galaxy Tab only runs Android 2.2 Froyo -- not the tablet-optimized 3.0 Honeycomb -- and is less powerful than tablets like the iPad 2 and Xoom, this seems like a good deal.
The new price is already $150 cheaper than the the 16 GB wifi-only iPad 2 and has double the storage.
Along with the Xoom, the Galaxy Tab is one of the only decent competitors for the iPad. At this price, it may finally entice people to choose Android over Apple.
Before you pull the trigger and buy one right away, keep in mind Samsung will have two new Honeycomb-powered tablets this summer, the Galaxy 10.1 and Galaxy 8.9. Both will be lighter and slightly thinner than the iPad 2.

Now You Can Buy Samsung's Galaxy Tab For Just $200 From Verizon And Sprint
The Samsung Galaxy Tab is now only $199.99 if you buy it with a two-year 3G contract from either Verizon or Sprint.
The Galaxy Tab is seven inches and is still running Android 2.2 Froyo (which isn't optimized for tablets like Honeycomb), but this is still an excellent price for anyone looking for an affordable, portable tablet.
T-Mobile and AT&T are still selling the Tab for $250 and $550, respectively. However, AT&T does not require you to sign a two-year data contract.
But if you're serious about getting an Android tablet, we suggest waiting for Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 this summer. Both are thinner and lighter than the iPad 2, and will run Honeycomb. You can expect pricing to be similar to the iPad, so around $600 for the 32 GB model.

The flipped menu and home buttons from my Evo could drive me nuts.
I read a fair number of books I get in PDF format. The Adobe reader doesn't keep my place. Do you have a solution? For convergence I really like the Galaxy Tab as a replacement and enhancement of my Kindle + windows slate. But it is a bit heavier and there are things missing like an easy way to maintain place in a pdf.

Vast Majority Of People Prefer The iPad Over The Galaxy Tab (AAPL, GOOG)
The Android-based Galaxy Tab is losing the battle for consumer mindshare, says Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster in a note this morning.
He did a quick survey of consumers to see what people are thinking of the two tablets. His key findings:
- 85% of consumers prefer the iPad over the Tab. Makes sense because the iPad is a brand that's been advertised for months. The Tab is new and lesser known. Plus it's not as well reviewed.
- The iPad is seen as more valuable. The "perceived value" of the iPad is $417, while it's $283. The "perceived value" is what consumers think is a fair price for either the iPad or the Tab.
So, what does it all mean? Not much right now, really. The Tab is the first Android tablet. Over time, more will come out, and they will have a chance to dethrone the iPad. Munster thinks ultimately Android will have greater market share.
For now, though, the iPad remains king of the tablets. It will have many quarters to go before it has to forfeit the crown.
