The top trends to keep an eye on in 2011- How IT people feel about the economy - Hey, kids, wake up: Employers don't like the way you act in the office.
Trends to keep an eye on. From Forrester Research:
- Business intelligence will combine real-time access with agility and self-service.
- Business rules will move to the mainstream.
- Software as a Service and cloud platforms will become standard.
- System management will enable continued virtualization.
- And collaboration platforms will become people-centric.
- Cloud computing
- Mobile apps and media tablets
- Next-generation analytics
- Social analytics
- Social communication and collaboration
Now a question for you: Are you positioned to take advantage of these?
More than half of the tech professionals surveyed say there are fewer jobs available. Forty three percent are confident of finding a new job. This is from a survey by Technisource, which found 38 percent of IT workers are likely to search for job opportunities in the next 12 months. That's up a point from the second quarter, and the highest since the fourth quarter of 2009. Only 20 percent think the economy is getting stronger; 47 percent say its staying the same. That's not surprising with all the headlines lately. But still, most feel good about their job security, and their ability to find a new job if they want to - or have to.
Researchers at York College of Pennsylvania say students need to improve their attitude. More than a third of the employers they surveyed say less than half of new graduates act like professionals at work. Nearly 25 percent say that professionalism has decreased.
Only 15 percent of respondents said it had increased. Where can you improve? Internet etiquette, taking responsibility, and getting used to constructive criticism - All things employers say are important.
