(Founder Stories) Gilt’s Kevin Ryan—It Is All In The Presentation (TCTV)

Chris Dixon wraps his Founder Stories interview with Gilt Groupe’s CEO and Founder, Kevin Ryan by discussing the early sales strategy of Gilt - a strategy that was designed to build customer and brand loyalty, but not the bottom line, at least initially. Revisiting the launch period around four years ago, Ryan says, "we were going to make $4,000 for us on a sale and I spent $7,000 on the photo shoot, and you would say that is not a good business model, but what happened was the brands loved it, the customers loved it ... and so now we sell $100,000, $200,000, $300,000 .... on a sale."

(Founder Stories) Fred Wilson, The Full Interview

What was the best business decision VC Fred Wilson ever made? What was the worst? What part of his job does he dislike the most? The answers might surprise you. In the video above, Wilson answers some rapid fire questions (delivered in a not-so-rapid fashion) from Founder Stories host Chris Dixon. The clip is an outtake from the interviews segments we ran a week ago, in which Wilson talks about frothy valuations, his investment philosophy, the relationship between VCs and startups, and the VC business in general. We cut up the interview into four separate clips, which you can find in the links above, but they were so popular I am putting the entire unedited 17-minute interview below, for those of you who missed it the first time around or want to watch it all the way through.

Facebook Updates Ad System, Adds "Sponsored Stories" So You Can Spam Your Friends Better

Mark Zuckerberg Oil Painting

Facebook has rolled out an upgrade to its self-serve ad system that includes its new ad format, "Sponsored Stories", All Facebook points out.

The idea behind Sponsored Stories is to turn your Likes into ads. When you like something on Facebook and someone has bought an ad for it, that story will be broadcast to your friends.

Facebook announced the product last month but now it's part of their self-serve ad system so anyone can buy them.

The other major piece of this upgrade is that it lets advertisers select which tap of their fan page people who click on the ad will land on. So now you can split-test what people land on and optimize your campaigns better.

Facebook ‘Sponsored Stories’ Ad Service Debuts

Your Facebook Places check-ins or user recommended published stories, may soon end up as an advertisement on the website via a new ad service launched for premium advertisers called "Sponsored Stories." In short, you would go out somewhere, check-in to that location, and the company of that establishment would decide to promote your status update with the check-in as a Sponsored Story.
