Google Making Big Search Announcement Tomorrow? (GOOG)

Google is having an Inside Search event for journalists tomorrow in San Francisco hosted by top engineer Amit Singhal.

Danny Sullivan posted the invitation, which says that journalists will be getting an "under the hood look" at how Google Search works and seeing demos of new features.

The last time Google did something like this, it was to introduce Google Instant, which displays search results as you type.

Tomorrow, Google could announce new social search features related to Google +1, more tweaks to help get rid of spam and increase relevance, or some whizzy new feature that nobody has even speculated about yet. We'll be following along and bringing you the news as soon as it happens.

Inside Search is also the name of the official Google Search blog that launched in May. Previously, search info was rolled up into the main Google corporate blog, but the company is big enough and diverse enough now that search apparently deserves its own special place on the Web.

Foursquare's Big Announcement At Disrupt, Revealed

Cloud Touch, the Android phone made by INQ, is already on sale in the UK. 

It's intended to be a social phone. If you scroll to the right, instead of a pile of apps, you'll just see Facebook data.

But now, if you scroll to the left, you'll see Foursquare data. "The Foursquare data is built entirely off of our API," says Crowley.

The phone will be available to everyone this summer.

Adobe Just Leaked The News About Google's Next Android Announcement (ADBE, GOOG)

Flash for Honeycomb tablets got an update to version 10.2, allowing for faster web video.

But the real news comes from the update's description, where it hints at being compatible with Honeycomb version 3.1. They current version of Honeycomb is 3.0, so we assume that means a tablet update is on the way.

From the brief description provided by we know that Honeycomb 3.1 will allow for hardware accelerated video. That means your tablet's processor and hardware will be used to make streaming videos run faster and smoother. The new version of Flash will also work better with Honeycomb's new browser.

LIVE: Google Chrome Announcement (GOOG)

Google is holding a conference in San Francisco at 1:30 ET, where it's expected to take the wraps off the long-awaited Chrome OS and perhaps show the first netbooks running Chrome.

Chrome is different from Android, as Google's Andy Rubin explained last night, in that it's totally about the Web and making Web applications run more efficiently. Android is more of a general-purpose OS for mobile devices, focused on all sorts of apps.

10:30: Vice president of product management Sudar Pichai is taking the stage. When they launched the Chrome browser, they almost thought of it as an OS. Focus on speed, simplicity, and security.

10:33: Chrome has 120 million active daily users. That's 300% growth since January. Why? Biggest reason is speed.

10:35: Brian Rakowski is taking the stage to do a demo of the Chrome browser's speed, using Google Instant in the Chrome "omnibox" (the address bar/search pane at the top). So far, no news...just a cheerleading session for a 2-year-old browser. So where's the OS? Where are the netbooks?

10:38: Now he's demoing Chrome's super-fast PDF reader using the Chrome comic book. It is pretty slick--a 20 page PDF shows up immediately. The 1,990 page PDF of the health care reform bill? Also shows up immediately. That's far better than PDF on Firefox/Windows.

10:39: Note: the Chrome demo is on Windows 7.

10:40: Now he's showing a GPU-powered demo of interactive fish using WebGL, a part of the HTML5 spec. This is very similar to the HTML5 demos that Microsoft has been showing for Internet Explorer 9. Only this demo has sharks shooting lasers out of their eyes!
