Apple Announces Oct. 4 Iphone Event

Apple has officially announced its iPhone event, to be held on Oct. 4 as previously reported. The event will take place at Apple's Cupertino Campus in California, beginning at 10 AM Pacific (1 PM Eastern), according to press invitations issued by Apple on Tuesday.

Facebook Announces Video Chat Powered By Skype

Facebook just announced its new chat client, featuring Skype-powered video chat.

Mark Zuckerberg is giving the keynote now, but Facebook's blog already has the details.

Here's what's new:

The buddy list has a new look.

Friends who you chat with most will appear at the top of your list.

Video chat take place within the browser.

There's even group video chat!

It's Official! Spotify Announces U.S. Launch

Spotify just announced it's launching in the U.S. soon.

There's no word on a date, pricing, or the rumored Facebook integration, but you can enter your e-mail address on its U.S. site to be notified when it becomes available.

We first got wind of the announcement from this tweet by Michelle Kadir, Spotify's director of product development.

Steve Jobs Announces iTunes In The Cloud (AAPL)

Apple announced iTunes in the Cloud at WWDC today.

The music service will allow you to get all your music pushed to any iOS device.

Here's how it works:

All the songs you've purchased on iTunes will show up as "purchased" in the iTunes store.

Any purchased song can be downloaded from the cloud to your iOS device

iCloud will be free.

iTunes Match: Will scan your library for music ripped from CDs or downloaded elsewhere. You can then stream that music to your iOS device.

iTunes Match will cost $25 per year to use. That one flat price will get you unlimited use.

Sony Announces S1 And Dual-Screen S2 Android Tablets

Sony has just announced a pair of Honeycomb tablets, but — wait, wait, these ones are actually different. Yes, Sony has set itself apart from the crowd of Android slates by focusing on unique form factor and its Qriocity media suite. They have their own names but are both underneath a new "Sony Tablet" brand, which is just about the least exciting "brand" I've ever encountered. The tablets themselves, however, look interesting. The S1 is a slate-style tablet with a 9.4-inch screen. Its special power is a strange rolled shape and an "off-center of gravity design" intended to make holding it easier. The S2 is a dual screen device with two 5.5-inch screens. Didn't see that coming.
