Comment on Comcast bringing Skype video chat into the living room by Chris

Great for grandma, but who else is paying for a separate box, remote, and cam just to Skype off your TV? This is a great start to the M$oft era. I hope the next big announcement is that on my next Delta flight I can rent some contraption to Skype from the sky!

Apple Bringing Subscription-Style Billing To iPad Publishers (AAPL)

Eddie Cue

At today's launch of News Corp's iPad newspaper, the Daily, Apple exec Eddie Cue hinted that all publishers with iPad apps will soon be able to charge readers on a subscription basis.

Through Apple's iTunes app store, the Daily will bill readers either $.99 per week or $39.99 per year.

It's "a whole new subscription billing that's easy to use as one-click," said Cue.

After a reporter asked Cue when Apple plans to make subscription charging available to more publishers, Cue answered, "you'll hear an announcement very soon for other news publications."

"Rest assured that we want our customers to be able to get those publications very easily."

Apple Bringing iAds To Japan With Ad Giant Dentsu (AAPL, GOOG)

Japan phone girlApple is teaming up with Dentsu Group, the huge Japan ad agency, to bring Apple's iAd mobile advertising service to Japan.

Apple will host, target, and deliver the ads, while Dentsu will be responsible for sales and "creative execution." (We don't know if it will be the ONLY company that can make iAd creative, or if it will work with other agencies. We'll ask.)

In a canned quote, Apple iAd boss Andy Miller says Apple has "already doubled the number of brands in the network."

Not yet announced by Apple: When it will offer its iAd SDK for other agencies to use to make iAds. Agencies, who are used to controlling the entire ad process, have been annoyed by Apple's tight control over the iAd so far. Last month, we reported scuttlebutt that Adidas had pulled out of the iAd program after Apple rejected its ad creative for the third time.
