I think the key for RIM would be to improve the Blackberry OS experience on the touch devices. We have to remember that Blackberry is primarily a keyboard device and touch is not an natural interface for the platform. I am actually pretty excited to see how this shakes out and what emerges from the collaboration.

Om Malik: This Is Why GigaOm Raised $6 Million More

In a Skype interview at TechCrunch Disrupt, Om Malik, founder of GigaOm, discussed his company's recent $6 million round.

"We are building a more analysis and research-driven business with a totally different point of view [from a blog like TechCrunch]. We're going away from the whole page view model and focusing on paid content," he says.

He says the company is not pivoting because the advertising-based content model online is dying. Rather, the paid content model compliments it.

When asked if Om felt he had one-upped Mike Arrington, Om replied: "No...kumbaya."

You are right. I should have mentioned equipment and that slipped my mind. On their website, Verifone describes itself "We provide solutions, services, and expertise that enable electronic payment transactions and value-added services at the point of sale." Given your description,, Square is an equipment manufacturer as much as a service provider. Its reader is a tiny do-hickey and the software running on a smartphone/tablet -- which is essentially the trend being an emergent trend when it comes to hardware centric innovation.

I think you and I have a different idea of what works in terms of technology products. I think if the OS-X on a netbook works for you, great. I like the complete experience and yes I do think it is well priced. Compare it with similar machine from Sony VAIO and you can see the difference.

Tony I think that is a good and valid point. My suspicion is that the person in question was pretty well compensated and from a monetary standpoint, was full vested or something. I do agree that market should value the "value creators" correctly but what is the correct value, is something that is debatable. Or rather in the eye of beholder. PS: The funding isn't flowing to those can execute, but instead it is flowing everywhere :-)

Howie I think it is a "work in progress" reality when it comes to WiFi or for that matter any Internet-related technology. Look at where we are today and where we were at the turn of the century -- it is night and day. But as you say, more needs to be done. PS: I hate the WiFi-related issues as well and despite sitting next to the router, I am currently getting about 12 Mbps to the laptop. I plug-in Ethernet cable, well that is running at about 50 Mbps. So I feel your pain :-)
