Apple Is Recalling Verizon iPad 2s [REPORT] (AAPL, VZ)

Verizon iPhone line

Apple has issued a recall for Verizon iPad 2's.

Apple Store employees have been instructed to scan iPad 2 stocks for Verizon iPads that fall under a certain range of serial numbers and return them, 9to5 Mac reports.

The iPads are having problems viewing and editing account information after activating with Verizon's network.

This isn't the first problem with Verizon iPads. Earlier this spring several users had problems connecting to the carrier's 3G network.

We're reaching out to Apple for comment now. Stay tuned for updates.

CHART OF THE DAY: Android Users Are Bigger Data Hogs Than Anyone (AAPL, GOOG, T, VZ)

Remember when people would talk about AT&T's network being crushed by iPhone users and all the data those users needed for websites and apps? And people would say that's why AT&T's network was so weak?

Well, we never heard those complaints about Verizon when it got a bunch of Android users. And it turns out Android users are bigger data hogs than anyone else, including iPhone users, according to Nielsen.

verizon 4g lightning

Verizon has plans to roll out its speedy 4G network to another 21 cities beginning June 16, the company tweeted.

That's on top of handful of news cities added last week.

So far, our tests have shown Verizon's "4G" service to be faster than the other big three carriers. At times, it even outpaced our typical cable modem speeds.

Here's the list of cities getting 4G next month. We'll keep it updated as Verizon announces more today:

  • Sioux Falls, SD
  • Milwaukee, WI
  • Madison, WI
  • Flint, MI
  • Grand Rapids, MI
  • Fort Wayne/Indianapolis, IN
  • Hartford, CT
  • Erie, PA
  • Dayton/Springfield, OH
  • Penn State
  • Greenville-Spartenburg, SC
  • Harrisburg, PA

Will Verizon's Network Failure Delay Its Next 4G Phone Launch Today? (VZ)

samsung droid charge android phone

Today Verizon is supposed to launch its second 4G phone, the Samsung DROID Charge.

But because its 4G network has been down for about two days now, Verizon says it can't activate 4G phones until the problem is fixed.

That means people who ordered the Charge won't be able to activate their phones today. And it's likely in-store customers won't be able to buy the phone until the network is back up.

If you own currently own a 4G phone, Verizon says you'll still be able to make calls, but could experience data speeds at "1x," which is slower than 3G.

We asked Verizon if it plans to continue selling 4G devices today (including the HTC Thunderbolt), and will let you know when we hear back.
