Silly comments from people who think they can tell the future. It seems pretty clear that Microsoft always wins in the end . They did with windows total domination 90%. And they will again with wp7 . That's not a prediction , it's based on past success . All those things you state that are wrong are meaningless nonsense that either will go away in the next couple months duh, ever hear of a progression of a platform. Or they don't matter to the people who will buy them . People want facebook twitter , music and IE that's it.

Having dominated Smartphone sales for a long time now and in that achieving large revenue from the sale of Apple’s iPhones, AT&T; could face some problems in the near future. These problems could be the result of alleged rumours indicating the closure of AT&T;’s contract of bearing exclusive rights to sell iPhones. Another gossip that is doing rounds is that Verizon Wireless will take over the exclusive rights from the incumbent store AT&T; to market and sell iPhones and this will happen from the first quarter of 2011. Keeping this in mind the AT&T; store has gone ahead and readied itself by broadening its product portfolio and also struck a new deal that could delight Smartphone users.

There will be more and more of such voices. Tethered appliances having a second birth pushed by Apple boxing/framing/jailing what users can and can not do. Also along with it centralized walled networks/services coming back as part of web 2.0 and software as a service movements. There are benefits to be gained and things to be lost... Some people in some situations would prefer to be jailed but safe then exposed to wild web. That's what partially drives Appleand some other products with "Gate Keeprs" these days. Yes they win ease of use in anticipated use cases, ability to optimize better for those and various "guarantees" from manufacturer no PC/software manufacturer would give you. But they loose all those unanticipated or unwelcome by "Gate Keeper" use cases and frame their minds and ideas to frames imposed by the "Gate Keeper". Noticed few times myself how I stopped to think outside the box Apple made being an owner of iPhone... And then there is software as service. Some (including me sometimes) would prefer small and weak devices attached to the cloud that we do not control, own or even know much about. We obviously win some things here but also loose some others. Like you can't take your information out of the service often. Or that you can't keep old version of the service when they roll out a new version(you can with desktop software). Also both such service and such devices allow great deal of control to those who has power over various things be it Apple banning Flash, RIA suing Apple to force Apple to ban say torrent apps, say Microsoft suing Google for Docs features forcing them to remove some crucial for Google clients features after they payed for them, or government forcing to remove features, add wiretapping etc etc... Those all are problems of centralized solutions. Ones that lost completely in 90 to the open web but now coming back as open and not controlled web is not perfect and has its own problems. Viruses, hacking, demand from user to have level of expertise to be able to use it efficiently, safely. In the end all those things are compromises. In 90 centralized and controlled compromise lost to open web. Now as more less techsevy people are coming to the web balance shifts back... I guess we will just have some swing back to feel again why such things lost in 90 and then find new balance between controlled and centralized modes and open and decentralized ones.

Group Deal Platform NimbleCommerce Is Ready For Its Closeup

Given the massive success of Groupon (and the huge number of clones out there), it's no surprise that existing publishers and businesses are keen to take advantage of the craze themselves. Some of them have turned to white-label deal services, which allow these publishers to manage their deals without having to reinvent the wheel. And today a company called NimbleCommerce is making its press debut by announcing that it's got deals with "25 large newspapers; business directories and local media companies". You'll notice I put that in quotes — NimbleCommerce won't list off many of the companies it's partnered with, but says that 50% of its clients are publicly traded and that it is "five to ten times bigger than Tippr" and other close competitors. Again, they won't give hard stats, but the clients NimbleCommerce can name are solid: OpenTable uses its platform to run deals, as does Valpak and Canada's Yellow Pages.

As LimeWire Shuts Its Doors, Other P2P Clients See a Surge in Usage

Less than a week since LimeWire was ordered to shut down its operations, almost all other major file-sharing applications are reporting a massive increase in downloads, arguably from those displaced LimeWire users.

A New York district judge last Tuesday issued a cease-and-desist order, demanding that LimeWire immediately close its doors. And while LimeWire has said it has plans to institute a redesigned service, based on legal and licensed music subscriptions, it seems like many of the site's users may have gone elsewhere for their torrents, rather than waiting for a revised version of what was once the most popular file-sharing app.

TorrentFreak reports that it has spoken with a number of developers from P2P services, all of whom have seen a "huge boost in download numbers following Tuesday's verdict." No developers were willing to go on the record and give TorrentFreak the raw data - for fear, no doubt, of incurring the same wrath of the courts that LimeWire has received.

The exception is BearShare. Much like LimeWire, BearShare was once a Gnutella-based application. But in May 2006, BearShare was ordered to pay $30 million in settlement with the RIAA. Following that decision, BearShare altered its offerings via the Gnutella framework, limiting file-sharing. And its current iteration is, as the site proclaims "100% legal."

Despite these restrictions, BearShare has seen a 780% increase in US downloads since Tuesday. And it reports its daily US downloads went up from 8000 to 62,400. The company does not say, however, whether or not these new sers are actually paying for their downloads. (That is, I believe, what the RIAA believes will save all those poor suffering record labels.)

Even though the LimeWire alternatives have seen an influx of traffic over the past week, the fallout from last week's decision - and the still-to-come decision regarding the dollar figure attached to the judgement - remains to be seen as to how it will impact file-sharing services and users.
